Clean Up Australia Day

Sunday 4/3/2018 was Clean Up Australia Day and as a Club, decided to clean up our own back yard, namely Railway Terrace in Murray Bridge.
Our club has a very strong policy of ensuring the environment is protected and clean, which is one of the attractions to going off road. It is a joy to be a member of this club who have a fantastic record of environmental responsibility.
It was decided that this year, as opposed to other years where we would clean up along the highways and national parks, Murray Bridge could do with a clean-up. Starting at 9.00am and finishing at 12.00pm, we managed to collect enough rubbish to stack high on top a 6′ x 4′ trailer, just from along Railway Terrace alone.
It was surprising to see that the rubbish collected was mostly snack or chip packets and coffee cups, with the obligatory shopping trolley and car tyre being picked up.
In the photos you can see the happy but weary rubbish collectors with their bounty, who afterwards finished the event with a BBQ at Sturt Reserve. The before and after shot tells the story of how better the environment looks without discarded rubbish.
We would encourage the public to try to contain their rubbish from getting into the environment of this wonderful town. The rubbish was taken to the Council Depot where it was placed in a large skip bin.
Despite it being a reasonably warm day, and the collecting was difficult due to it being largely located under Peppercorn trees and thorny bushes, we were filled with a huge sense of achievement and satisfaction at the end.
